About Little Scallywags

Little Scallywags has come about through my love of sewing, which was rekindled a few years ago when our grandchildren were born.

When I was a little girl (many years ago) my mother taught me to sew. Every Sunday she set aside a couple of hours to teach me life skills – baking, knitting, cooking and sewing. In my teens I often made dresses and skirts, buying the fabric on the market in the morning and making it in the afternoon to wear to the pub or disco in the evening. Nobody else would ever be wearing  the same garment. perhaps a sign of what was to come in Little Scallywags.

After 30 years in corporate life as a manager then Company Secretry and Director, and with grandchildren now in the family I was free to pursue my passion for sewing. Over the past few years my grandchildren have received numerous nursery items and clothing, often admired by friends who wanted to know where to buy them.

This led to a City and Guilds qualification in Tailoring and additional courses in pattern drafting and eventually to the formation of Little Scallywags.

I am a great believer in supporting UK industry and in producing quality products, so I use mainly Liberty and Oakshott fabrics much of which is produced in this country. I also believe that wherever possible natural breathable fabrics should be used for children’s items.

The wadding used in my quilts is made from cotton and bamboo which is eco-friendly and produced without the use of chemicals or bleaching.

In an age of mass production all items are unique and traditionally made with love,by myself for your loved ones.

When you buy from Little Scallywags you know that each item has been made with love, by myself for your loved ones.
